Our Group

The Westham Community Group was set up over 10 years ago to help provide events for the Westham Community and also to support other groups offering Westham residents opportunities to be active in the neighbourhood. It works in partnership with the local council and councillors although it tries to remain independent of politics. It is run by a committee and attempts to hold four open events during the year, some of which are detailed elsewhere on this website. Activities that it has bid for grants and then delivered include three successful entries for the Westham Carnival; a range of summer holiday activities for younger residents for three years; celebrations of Westham's 125th and 130th birthdays; campaigns to get better play facilities; campaigns to reduce the speed of traffic and more recently working with the Heritage Lottery to add All our Stories to this website, including the history of the Australians in Westham. The community group was involved in the design and running of the Safewise Community Safety Centre adjacent to the new fire station. We are always looking for new and active members and in particular would be delighted for help in maintaining this web site in the future. Please contact us if you would like to know more of what we get up to in the Westham area. As street name plates are replaced you will see them reappearing with our logo on, which is at the top of the page. The AGM was on Thursday 10th September 2015 at 7.30pm in the Community Safety Centre and the minutes are printed on the About Page

The Westham Community Group is seriously considering disbanding itself as there has been little new blood coming in to help it run activities and promote Westham. The Borough Council wants a group of people it can talk to about activities in Westham and if we do not exist we may miss out on all sorts of opportunities. we have achieved a lot in the last ten years so need fresh faces to help move the agenda forward. Please get in touch if you would like to help us in anyway.

Friends of the Marsh

This group was set up to help protect the Marsh from development and clearly this is very important for all Westham residents.
